Kamala Harris’s plan to End Price Gouging

And other lessons in Socialism

According to Forbes Magazine, presumptive presidential nominee Kamala Harris plans to “pass a national ban on ‘price gouging’ for food and groceries, as well as give the Federal Trade Commission and prosecutors authority to go after companies they determine price gouge.”

Admittedly, some socialist ideas sound good at first. But Harris doesn’t even attempt to hide her intentions. If her administration really wanted to make groceries and necessary items more affordable for the American people, where is the plan to increase food production? Where are the ideas to decrease regulatory costs so that manufacturers are incentivized to produce more, better quality goods? These are the actions which have been proven to drive down costs. Instead, she wants to go after a small-town grocer who charges $3.25 for a loaf of bread.

The same article reveals her plan to reduce rental costs. She wants to “call on Congress to pass legislation that would stop predatory investors who buy up rental homes and collude with each other to raise rental prices.”

Although this sounds like she’s planning to go after BlackRock — the global asset management conglomerate that has monopolized and destroyed the housing market — she won’t because they are in bed with the government. She wants to prosecute private investors like YOU and approve more tax-payer funding for the regulatory agencies to go after private citizens.

Don’t be fooled, friends. Socialism hasn’t been tried before and failed. It always accomplishes its objective. The goal of socialism, and the ultimate end game of communism, is to empower the government and enslave the people. It always starts with lofty promises and ends in misery.

For example, many brutal dictators throughout history successfully sold this dream of peace on earth, only to devastate their country’s economy, oppress their people ruthlessly, and crush any opposition. Vladimir Lenin promised Russia “Peace, Bread, and Land” in 1918; Jawaharlal Nehru promised India the end of poverty in 1947; Mao Zedong promised China there would be open debate in 1956; Fidel Castro promised Cuba prosperity in 1960; and Hugo Chávez promised Venezuela universal healthcare in 1998.

Even prosperous democracies such as Germany in the 1930s, Venezuela in the 1990s, and Sweden in the 2010s, have succumb to destructive policies and mismanagement which bankrupt the economy and destroy the culture.

The consequences of socialism are predictable because the concept defies the laws of nature. This erroneous idea is an insult to our God-given intellect. To be candid, individuals never benefit from the government’s centralized control and planning over the means of production or service providers, only the politicians in power do.

According to Friedrich Von Hayek, the Nobel Prize winner in Economics in 1974, “If socialists understood economics, they wouldn’t be socialists.”

Make no mistake. Private industry and market economies trump socialism every time. Please remember this when you vote in November.
